![]() ![]() There’s so much more headroom with the Xbox One that Forza 5 gets 1080p 60fps visuals with some of the best lighting and detail work I’ve ever seen in a videogame. The cars look great, as do many of the tracks, but you don’t have to look hard to find rough edges. But you can’t help but think that they ran out of power when you look at GT6‘s static scenery, pop up book trees, and jaggy edges. It seems like there’s just enough power under the hood of the PS3 to make for a fine racing videogame. The graphical leap between current-generation and next-generation visuals is huge. They’re all so impeccably crafted that I think tracks feel better on Polyphony Digital’s side. ![]() Add in the variable weather and environmental changes and there’s more than enough variety to keep things fresh for hours on end. GT6‘s tracks may not have the photorealism and high detail of Forza 5′s tracks, but the number of tracks makes up for this many times over. The lack of variety is bothersome, but the lack of fan-favorite tracks really stinks. Again, the 14 tracks that are included are great, but you see them so often in career mode that you start to tire of them. The tracks are both beautiful and ridiculously detailed, but I would have rather had less shine on these tracks if I could trade that for more places to race. My biggest complaint with Forza 5 is that there are not enough tracks to keep me entertained. The fun of experiencing so many different types of vehicle types is what really keeps me coming back to GT6‘s career mode - Forza 5 doesn’t have that for me.Īt the end of the day, we play these games because we like cars. And there are some strange offerings to keep things fun, like the moon rover. It’s so nice to be able to flip through all of the offerings and drool over virtual vehicles - it’s like a game in itself. Still, GT6 has the number advantage, so it wins for me. ![]() And Forza has all the cars you’d like to drive (or own), with none of the duds or duplicates. But, right now, Polyphony Digital’s work can’t touch Turn 10’s. Given the next-gen advantage, I’m sure GT6‘s cars would look just as nice. Cut the ones you’d never drive and the variations and the number would go down quite a bit.įorza 5′s cars look incredible. And Gran Turismo games offer several variations on one model. I mean, a Daihatsu hatch isn’t something you’d brag about. Yes, GT6 has 1,200 cars, but I’m willing to bet that most gamers won’t touch many of the cars in the bottom ranks. People were loud and mad at Forza 5‘s 200 or so available cars. I picked cars as the first entry for this comparison so I can rant a bit. Both games are great.īut I’ve dared to compare the two as a long-time fan of both franchises. ![]() If you ask me, I think you should buy both if you can. However, as a major fan of the Gran Turismo franchise since the series began in 1998, GT6 is a game that cannot be ignored from someone like myself, and is worth having in my collection. There’s a racing simulation showdown taking place on gaming consoles this holiday season between PS3 racer Gran Turismo 6 and Xbox One launch title Forza Motorsport 5. It may have been the class leader in the car racing genre, but time has moved on. Then again I sense the GT franchise is beginning to lose its edge to other games of a similar nature, such as Forza, Ridge Racer and so on. Nevertheless, in a nutshell, I enjoy GT6 I prefer it to GT5. I appreciate the game makers are Japanese, but the bias towards cars from that part of the world (as with the earlier games) is annoying how many Mistubishi Lancers, Subaru Imprezas and Nissan Skylines do we need?! There are also some interesting omissions from the line up a list of cars I could mention is endless so I won't do that here. The inclusion of 1200 cars is obviously a winner, although from what I've seen, many vehicles seem to be from the 1990s and early 2000s, so the vast majority are nothing new to me. In other words, it's not challenging enough. There are other imperfections the AI - as with GT6's predecessors - leave a lot to be desired, and if using a car up to the newly introduced PP limit, winning races really isn't that difficult. There are still some missed opportunities such as 'standard' vehicles having straightforward black interiors and the lack of windscreen wipers for example. However, I was intrigued to discover this game was not a Playstation 4 title, but nevertheless the excellent graphics certainly prove the astute attention to detail up to a point. GT6 has proved (at least for me) to be an acceptable game and a definite improvement over GT5, which had been seen to be a little fussy and complicated. ![]()
